Kitchen and Utility Room, Nimrod Rd, Furzedown

Project: Kitchen extension with utility and bathroom. Year: 2023

Sarah and her partner had lived in their Edwardian home in Furzedown for 34 years and had dreams of seeing their garden from their kitchen.

To do this they needed to reconfigure the ground floor which would include a kitchen, utility room and downstairs bathroom.

Sarah would have liked to have changed the internal configuration of the house years ago when their children were small, but they just didn’t have the budget. 

Tijs was recommended by one of Sarah’s neighbours who had used the team before. 

As for the detail Sarah says, “Mainly I knew what we wanted to do but Tijs helped us get there and made some good suggestions about lighting, the kitchen supplier and some other fittings. I felt he understood that we wanted to update, while keeping the main features of an Edwardian house.”

The project was relatively straightforward and included a new boiler, underfloor heating and insulating the room.

We worked with Lucio of The Italian Job for the kitchen and stone worktop, in one of our many collaborations with him and his team.

“It all went to plan with nothing unusual discovered and it was unbelievably easy, Tijs and the team managed it so we always had a working kitchen and hot water”, says Sarah. 

Sarah now plans to have Tijs and the team back to put underfloor heating in the front room.

“I love the space and have had loads of compliments. I can see my garden from my kitchen and we have retained the Edwardian feel. I also love my William Morris wallpaper.” 

Sarah describes working with our team as excellent, “Tijs is a great communicator and everyone who worked for him was lovely.

I describe them as a United Nations task force of helpful skilled trades, I would have any of them back.”
